Traveling, Dear-DEER? Columbus Ohio

Traveling Dear DEER's? Early Sunday morning before I even had a sip of coffee hubby and I looked out the window and walking up the street single file were these 5 Deers! **click on photo for close up**

Now, it's note worthy to know we do not live in the woods, or near the woods. We live on a very residential street; as I think you can see by the pictures. We live about 1.5 miles from The Scioto River, but between there and here we're talking a main road--4 lanes connecting 2 freeways, lots of cars, lots of people! Thankfully these traveling Deer's were traveling early enough on a Sunday morning they weren't in the middle of rush hour; but still we thought it pretty crazy. Food must be scarce along the river for them to go in search in such a people populated area. And or, they've gotten far too used to people feeding them that they now are going door to door. I fear the latter maybe true which is a dangerous sign for them.

The house and car you see them clustered by is where they stayed for about 3 minutes after walking up the street, 3 doors up from us on the opposite side of the street. As soon as we saw the traveling Deer, I nabbed my camera and hubby in his socks without shoes went quickly and quietly outside to get the pictures on zoom (they were far enough away, pics are a bit blurred).

I hope they were able to travel safely back to The River without incident.

Watching this type of travel fits nicely into the budget, requires no packing, and is suitable and highly recommended for people of all ages.

  1. Hope the deer made it back to the river okay too but it was nice of them to pay you a visit! We have resident deer in our neighborhood that have made themselves very much at home. Sadie loves looking for them!

  2. Wedding...we're not hunting here; nor do we want anyone hunting here. This is residential...not the woods. We're not trying to attract them. When people leave such comments it's clear to me, they've not bothered to read the post. errrrrrrr

  3. Great pictures! I'm glad you were able to get some before the deer took off! I had my own deer incident last year when one ran across the highway as I was approaching. Scared me to death but that was it. Both deer and driver were safe!

  14. That's cool that they were in town. We see them all the time out in the sticks where we live, yet every time they're in our yard, the whole family gathers at the windows to watch them.

Hope your holidays were all that you were wishing for!

  21. Sandy, Thanks for visiting my blog. Please come again anytime! I don't know much about the camera other than you attach it to a tree and try to position is just so (my husband is still working to perfect that part) so as to capture photos of wildlife as they wander through the acreage. Some people have infrared cameras to capture photos of poachers, intruders, etc. We're hoping for other wildlife to wander by like coyotes, wild turkeys, raccoons, rabbits etc. but right now we're happy to see just the deer. I felt so sorry for the poor little deer that managed to find their way to your neighborhood. I wonder if Animal Control could have helped them find their way to a more suitable location? I've read several of your posts on both this blog and Sandy's Space. I haven't knitted or crocheted in a LONG time but I'll be back to visit both blogs. Thanks for inviting me!

Oh, and more lyrics to "Green Acres" -

Green Acres is the place to be
Farm Living is the life for me
Land spreadin' out so far and wide
Keep Manhatten just give me that countryside.

New York is where I'd rather stay
    I get allergic smelling hay
I just adore a penthouse view
Darling I love you but give me Park Avenue.

(one of my favorite oldies but goodies sitcoms)

  22. Beautiful! I really miss seeing deer wandering about. Haven't seen much of any wildlife since we moved to Dallas almost 3 years ago. Deer are so pretty to watch (as long as they're not eating your flower beds!)

  23. Cool, who'd expect to see Deer like that instead of when they're in the woods. Weird though.
