We arrived at Castle Hotel Windsor too early to check in, but they held our luggage for us and when the appropriate time came would deliver our luggage to our room. This is not a picture I took, but one from their website. Our room was not in this section of the building, but in a building behind it. The 2nd building is a much newer portion. We spent 2 nights here.
Just out the door were lots of shops, and yes...Windsor Castle is right there! We stopped for a drink to pass some time, right across the street from The Thames River.A nice outside patio with views of The River. We had booked a 2 hour river cruise which was very relaxing after our over night flight and gave us a view of the castle. We scheduled with French Brothers . We had rain off and on, but still found the cruise enjoyable. We went through Boveney Lock. I understood the basic concept of going through a dock when water levels changed; but have never done it and found it very interesting. We had views of Eton College as well as the castle. The ship was pretty basic with plastic chairs.Walking alone the Thames after our cruise also proved to be enjoyable. You see lots of house boats.
The first of many Fish N Chips meals. This was excellent. Followed by a nice Irish CoffeeIn a very nice outside patio right on the River.
Windsor is an easy place to get around with lots to see, places to eat and shop.
Back in our hotel to relax for the night we enjoyed Crown Royal Black. Our "offical tour" was scheduled to start the following day at 2 pm.
Beautiful Sandy. Looks like a nice time.

DeleteWhat a beautiful photowalk on the day. The town is so bubbly.
ReplyDeleteWhat a good description of the town, being bubbly.
DeleteIt's always nice to get out on the water, no matter where that water is. It looks like you had a nice arrival.
ReplyDeleteAgree, it was a nice way to kick off the trip.
DeleteThat would be interesting to see houseboats. Itlooks lovely, despite the weather.
ReplyDeleteI was surprised at the number of houseboats, my friend was expecting that. She said she had read about them.
DeleteThis looks like a wonderful trip! It seems like your rooms were in a perfect location, the cruise sounds wonderful and so does the food. I can't wait to see more!
ReplyDeleteThis hotel was the best of the tour, both it's location and amenities. Sadly, each hotel there after went down hill. One of my complaints about the tour itself. But, we made the most of it and had a good time.
DeleteBeautiful commentary! Have a wonderful trip and thanks for taking us along!
ReplyDeleteThank you Marilyn. Wish you had left a link to your blog so I could return the favor of a visit and comment.
DeleteLove the river cruise and the food. Wow.
ReplyDeleteHave a fabulous day and week. ♥
Thanks Sandee, the cruise was perfect for us after the overnight flight. And our first fishnchips was yummy.
DeleteWay back when, I got to tour Windsor Castle (just the castle, not the town). I loved the fish and chips when I was in England.
ReplyDeleteGlad you got to tour the Castle, we really enjoyed it.
DeleteThis sounds like a wonderful trip. I would like to visit England. Your river cruise sounds like a great way to see some of it.
ReplyDeleteHope you get to go one day Mari, we had a very good time.
DeleteWe were in England 14 years ago and enjoyed our tour. But it was not as extensive as your tour -- basically southern England in 9 days with an emphasis on pagan/spiritual places like Stonehenge, Avebury, Glastonbury, etc. We did a Thames River cruise too but only in London.
ReplyDeleteI would like to have seen Avebury, as I've read it's more extensive.
