Traveling Suitcase 1st Award

blog award
Here are the rules:
1) Accept the award, post it on your blog together with the name of the person who has granted the award, and his or her blog link. Shelly at Wine at 52) Pass the award to 15 other blogs that you’ve newly discovered. Remember to contact the bloggers to let them know they have been chosen for this award.

I've had this lovely blog award in my file of things to do for awhile. I don't take awards lightly and so; have decided I now have some time to begin this lovely process.

First, many thanks Shelly. Please pop over, you'll enjoy her blog as much as I do. She's become one of my frequent travelers of late and so I have her listed on my blog log as well. She posts about many things that we can all relate to in our daily lives.

Pass the award onto 15 other blogs that you've newly discovered. Wow...that's a tall order. I visit a good number of blogs daily; but to say I've newly discovered them would be incorrect. So here I will list 5, and as I continue to roam about blog to blog; no doubt I'll find others to honor as well.

So this then is part I:
Coming Back to Life (Clara)
Mature not Senile (Judy)
Eddie's
Tweedles
Psychotic Housewife.

This is a very diverse list of blogs, all are worth your time and energy. Do click and visit and tell'em I sent ya.

  3. Hey! Thanks for stopping by my blog! I was having trouble coming up with how to define meme, so I referenced Urban Dictionary. According to it, "in blogspeak, an idea that is spread from blog to blog." :oD

  4. Thanks Jan for the compliment on the new layout and color etc for the blog. Still trying super hard to learn how to do a few more things.

VaBookworm, so an idea that spreads blog to blog, would my charity blog, Bridge and Beyond then be a MeMe?

I wonder how these crazy words get started? Thanks for help with it.

  8. Hi again! I don't think a blog in it's entirety is a meme. Perhaps if there was some smaller logo or something that travelled throughout the internet. A meme is like a chain letter or email. It's a sort of viral information/idea sharing. According to one source:

"For bloggers Memes have become synonymous with internet quizzes, surveys, and novelties that people link to and pass around on their blogs, forums and via email, things like the “which superhero are you most like” test…"

Meme itself isn't an acronym as far as I know. It was originally a word used in sociology and biology and somehow integrated into internet lingo.

  10. Hiya Sandy! I saw your comment on Confessions of a Bookworm so I thought I would give my two cents :)

That award in your blog post? That's an example of a meme. It's basically something that spreads from person to person.

It isn't an acronym, it's an invented word pronounced "meem". The idea actually originated with biologist & author Richard Dawkins, who wanted a word for a unit of culture analogous to a unit of DNA. So he coined the words "meme" and "memetics", like "gene" and "genetics". Only recently has it spread to online usage, to talk about surveys or other things you pass from one person to another. It's kind of like how genes pass through a gene pool over time, the award will spread through the community of bloggers. If that makes sense :)

Sorry for the novel I wrote. Haha. I'm a linguistics student so the history of words interests me and I love talking about it.
